Toy Box Makeover!

Last year when I was still pregnant I decided I wanted to Make my little Maylee a Toy Box! I went down to the DI and found this box It was an ugly gold color and was begging me for a makeover!
I sanded it that same day and then gave up. I was to pregnant and just didn't feel like making it any more.
So the other day my husband was cleaning out the shed and found it wahoooo!
So I made it over :)

I like the way it came out. Its non pink and tan... I still want to add a cushion to it but this will do for now..

Kinda New Kitchen

Last year I had purchased some counter tops from lowes for 25.00 they were on sale because they were getting a new design, Any ways my husband just decided to put in the counters over the weekend for me for Mothers day! Wahooo Me! Here is my before picture.
We really didn't need new counters I just hated so much white!
I was freaking out at this point hoping that my husband had cut all the pieces correctly for the counters.. There was no going back now!
Awh my cute Hubby!

Here it is finished! Yay.. I really wanted to do a back splash but couldn't afford it right now. I went down to lowes and found this paint able wall paper it was only $18.00 and I have a lot left over. I think it came out pretty neat!

Now I just need to get new kitchen Cabinet doors.. I was thinking of just cutting out bead board and then adding a frame around it..

The ReStore

I'm going to have to go check out this Restore! looks like they have some great deals! Joni from http://www.coupons4utah.com wrote about her visit there!

The ReStore: My Visit & Deal Still Available – $35 Voucher for $15!

Are you a thrift store junkie? You will defiantly want to head to Plum District Today 4/26.
I mentioned this Plum Deal a few days ago and thought I’d stop by the ReStore and check it out. The ReStore also accepts donations,  so I grabbed a faucet, that I had picked up at Lowes on a close-out sale and had ended up not installing in my own home, and headed out to take a look.
It is full of Home Improvement items, old and new. The first thing I spotted was a bathroom vanity with granite counter top for $120. Hum… My faucet would look pretty good with that.
And speaking of faucets, if you are in the market for one they currently have Faucets a plenty, still in the box, they were even 50% off and made by Kohler!! If you have a small tile job, you’ll want to take a look at the tile, there was glass, stone and they even had some 18″x 18″ tiles!
Like re-purposing old stuff? They have tables, desks, dressers and even hard to find old windows all waiting for a new life. I could go on and on. Keep in mind, this is a thrift store with one of a kind items that change quickly.  You’ll want to stop by and see what treasures you can find for yourself.
The Plum Deal closes TODAY 4/26. Grab a $35 voucher for $15! Plus, use code mom25and get 25% off, making your final cost $11.25! A coupon for a thrift store…. AWESOME! The sweetest part about this deal.. proceeds from the ReStore go to benefit Habitat for Humanity. :) The ReStore is located right off the I-15 13th South exit, on the North West side of the road. Happy Thrifting.

This is the cutest Nursery I have ever seen! When I get a new house I want to do my baby girls room like this! This post is from The Fickle Pickle! She is a really talented girl!

the Nursery

Okay here it is, for those that have been waiting...if there really were any of you out there...the BiG reveal.  Can I say I'm feeling a little nervous and a bit of pressure!?  First let me disclose that the room is still in a state of being 'sort of finished'.  But really, is the decorating ever completely FINISHED...not around here.  There are a few things I would like to try and include before baby comes, like a rocker of some sort and maybe a chandelier...if I ever find what I'm looking for (if you have ideas where to find either, please do share!!).  But for now it is as done as it's going to get.

The main project of this room was the board and batten treatment we did on the walls.  Initially getting the boards on the wall went pretty quick and without too much trouble.  We, like many others of you who have board and battened, went to the Home Depot and had the MDF cut...relieving much of the time and work that could have been spent.  After that we spent one weekend gluing, nailing, and painting.  If it weren't for the custom made trim and the finish work we could have had it all finished up in one whirlwind of a weekend.  Unfortunately making your own trim from scratch (couldn't find precut trim that I liked) and puttying and sanding then not liking the results and having to reputty and resand (3 or more times!) does take some time to accomplish.  Needless to say, it did get done and I LOVE the results.
I should probably take a moment here to mention that I really had little (okay, nothing) to do with all the labor that was involved in the making of this room.  That credit all goes to the hubs and my dad who put up with me and my 'ideas' through the entire project.

Okay, so on with the tour...
The paint color I chose for the upper wall is Glass Tile by Valspar.  Yes it is a bluish color.  And yes it is a little girl's nursery.  The one thing that my dad voiced his opinion on.  But you can see how much I listened...

The birdie canvas is from Pier 1 Imports and lamps I moved from another room (I found them at Hobby Lobby a few years ago).

I've been collecting different containers and buckets over the last few from all over to put on the cube shelves.  Most of these buckets are from Target's dollar spot and the canvas bins I found at Walmart.

I made these create paper balls last year for another project.  Thought they fit in the room nicely.

Because there is a lot of different patterns going on in the room with the bedding and different fabrics I couldn't decide what I wanted to do for curtains and finally ended up with plain old white panels...er, sheets.  That's right, $4.00 Walmart flat sheets.  Add a few curtain hooks and little fluff...you have very inexpensive drapes.  And later on if I find something I like better I won't feel guilty about spending the $.

The furniture is all recycled from the basement and has already survived two little boys.  I did, though, add a little fabric to the fronts of the drawers (just stapled it right on there) and added new knobs from Hobby Lobby to fancy up the dresser/changing table.

I've already mentioned the deal I got on the bedding once before...but for those who missed...I found the bumper pad and bed skirt for $8.00 a piece on clearance at Target a while back.  Then I made a few pillows to coordinate and tie in all the colors of the room.

I used some of the same fabrics from the pillows to make a pennant banner...I can't get over these!

The chandi art I found at Real Deals.

Can't get over the pom poms either...made these from tissue paper.

This little table used to be navy blue.  Looks much better covered in Glass Tile I must say.  I'm thinking she needs a cute little lamp to go up top.

I borrowed the zebra rug from the playroom (originally from Walmart).  Still trying to decide if I like it in the room or not.

And there ya have it...all ready for a baby, preferably a girl one.
Now that it's done I can focus on the less important things, like finding a car seat and other basics that have yet to be purchased...in my world decorating comes before the essentials.  Priorities.

Top 10 Free Events in Utah, May 2012

Summer's in the air, can you feel it?  We have been enjoying the warm weather by busting out the sprinklers and swimming suits.  If you're looking to celebrate the heat away from home, here is a list of events happening in May that you might just want to check out! ~  Fabulously Free Utah.

1.  The 8th annual  Live Green Festival  kicks off Saturday, May 5 at Liberty Square in Salt Lake.  Presented by ebay's Green Team, it will be full of great ideas to live green, not to mention the children's area and eco-carnival games.  So, go get a better education on saving the planet and have a blast doing it!  Opens at 10:00am and runs until 6:00

2. If you are in Utah County you might want to drop by for the Grand Opening of the Utah Valley Convention Center on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 to 4:00. A day of activities for the family, along with live entertainments, exhibit booths, and my favorite, free food!

3. Just because library story times have closed up for the summer, that doesn't mean everything has. Most libraries continue other programs through the summer, like movies for teens, Great Reads for Girls and Monday night family activities.  For Salt Lake County Libraries, check out theSLCoLibrary Website for info on program running at your nearest library.

4. Make it a point to get up to Ogden for the Hill Air Force Base Open House and Air Show. Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27, check out displays of planes and helicopters up close.  Make sure to bring blankets to sit on and an umbrella to keep the sun off, and really don't forget the earplugs for the kids.  Plan on spending the day and bring a lunch or purchase from one of the many vendors.

5. May marks the beginning of the Gallivan Lunch Bunch Concert Series.  Every weekday at noon, come listen to a variety of performers.  And every once in a while they will feature story tellers, which is really a treat.  At only an hour long it's a fun way to take a picnic.  All concerts are held at Gallivan Plaza.

6. Every month,on the first Wednesday and third Saturday, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts opens their doors for free. So, if you're looking to weave a little culture into your children's experiences or if you're looking for a cheap date, head up to Salt Lake and check it out.

7. The Provo Library holds a Children's book Festival every year, and this year it will be Saturday May 12 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Come and meet authors and participate in free crafts, games and puppet shows.  A great way to spend an afternoon.

8. If you have sci-fi, star lover at your house, be sure to check out the Astro-Fest at BYU on May 19 from 10:00 to 4:00. Held at the Eyring Science Center, come and watch rocket launches, physics demos, astronomy crafts and hands on activities for all ages.

9. You know those tall tales your kids love to tell?  Why not check out the Youth Tall Tale Contest at the Gale Center in South Jordan.  And if you don't have a storyteller at your house, just come and listen!  There are sure to be some whoppers. The contest will be held Tuesday, May 29 from 6:00 to 7:00.

10.  And hey, with all the warm weather, the snow is bound to be melting up in the mountains!  Go on a hike!  Our favorites are Silver Lake, (which might not be thawed, just yet), Donut FallsBridal Veil Falls and the Jordan River Parkway.

For a more complete list and even more ideas on how to stay busy this month, be sure to stop by Fabulously Free Utah.  And get out and have fun!
Thanks for coming to my new blog! I'm super excited to start Maylee's Mommy. I plan to post random neat things I find on the internet including Giveaways, coupons, crafts and recopies! If I find other neat stuff I'll be sure to post that too.

This is all I have for you right now. Keep checking back, I'm on here all day!!!
